"Our tour guide Nemias was very friendly and knowledgeable! Also he was funny as well with sharing his past experiences. We can tell that he’s very familiar with the history of all the places. We wish we could stay longer for some places after getting known about the history."

The Guide
Pisac: the Terraces, the Market and How Long You Get
The most dramatic terraces of the valley sit 9 km uphill from the market. Here is how a tour handles both.
Pisac is two places: a market town on the valley floor, 33 km from Cusco, and an Inca citadel of terraces, temples and walls on the mountain above it, 9 km further up the road. Almost every Sacred Valley tour stops there, but the time you get varies a lot. The tour at the top of this page saves Pisac for the end of the day and gives it about an hour, after Chinchero, Moray, the salt mines, lunch and Ollantaytambo. It costs from $30, rated 4.7 from 2,581 reviews (checked October 2026).
The Pisac ruins
Peru’s Ministry of Culture runs the site as the Pisaq Archaeological Park, open daily from 07:00 to 16:30. It averages about 3,400 m, the same height as Cusco, and the terraces climb steeply above the car park, so this is the most strenuous stop of the usual valley day: take it slowly. Long curving agricultural terraces wrap around the hillside below the ceremonial and residential sectors, and the views down the Urubamba valley are some of the best of the trip. Entry is on the Boleto Turístico; the partial Circuit III ticket at S/70 covers Pisac with Ollantaytambo, Chinchero and Moray for two days (COSITUC, checked October 2026). There is no Pisac-only ticket.
The Pisac market
Down in the town, the stalls around the main square sell textiles, ceramics, silver and alpaca. Sunday is the traditional market day, when people from the surrounding communities come down to trade, as PromPerú’s own traveller guide describes; on other days the square still fills with craft stalls for visitors. Tours often stop at a workshop in town as well as the ruins; you are under no obligation to buy.
Which tour gives Pisac the most time?
Sacred Valley, Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Moray and Maras
All six stops, with about an hour each at Ollantaytambo and Pisac. Lunch in Urubamba included.

The older valley route: the Taray viewpoint and Pisac in the morning, then Urubamba, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero. Only the S/70 ticket to pay.
See this tour →Prices, ratings and review counts from GetYourGuide, checked October 2026. Operators price by season, so treat them as the shape of the market, not a quote.
If you want Pisac with no clock at all, the answer is not a tour: sleep in the valley, take a taxi up to the upper entrance of the ruins in the morning and walk down through the terraces to the town and the market. The where-to-stay guide covers Urubamba and Ollantaytambo as bases. For the rest of the valley in a day, the full Sacred Valley tour on the homepage gives Pisac about an hour too, split between a workshop and the site.
Before you go
- Cash in soles for the tourist ticket (S/70) and, on the full days, the salt mines (S/20).
- Good shoes and water: the ruins are steep, uneven and at 3,400 m. The altitude guide has the heights of every stop.
- Keep your ticket: it is valid for two days and covers Ollantaytambo, Chinchero and Moray as well. The tourist ticket guide explains which one to buy.
How these facts were checked
The Pisaq park’s hours, altitude and the 33 km and 9 km distances are from the Ministry of Culture’s Cusco office (culturacusco.gob.pe), read 26 October 2026. The tourist-ticket prices and circuits are from COSITUC (cosituccusco.pe). The Sunday market is described in PromPerú’s traveller guide. Tour prices, ratings and itineraries are from GetYourGuide, checked October 2026.

Pisac Tour FAQ
The ruins, the market, the ticket and the time a tour gives you.
Pisac is on the Boleto Turístico: the partial Circuit III ticket costs S/70 for a foreign adult and covers Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero and Moray for two days (COSITUC, checked October 2026). There is no Pisac-only ticket. The S/130 integral ticket, valid ten days, covers it too, along with Sacsayhuamán and the other sites around Cusco. Pay in cash, in soles.
An hour gives you the main terraces and the ceremonial sector from the car park; two to three hours lets you walk the whole site down to the town. Group tours give Pisac between about 30 minutes and an hour. The site is open from 07:00 to 16:30 (Ministry of Culture).
Sunday is the traditional market day, when people from the surrounding communities come down to trade; craft stalls fill the square on other days too. PromPerú's traveller guide describes the Sunday market. If the market is the point of your visit, plan for a Sunday morning.
Pisac town is 33 km from Cusco by the Cusco to Calca road, and the archaeological park is 9 km further uphill from the town (Ministry of Culture, Cusco office). By tour van it takes about 45 minutes to an hour from Cusco to the town.
Yes: its sweeping agricultural terraces and the view down the valley are among the finest sights of the Sacred Valley, and the market town is lively. The ruins are steep and high, at about 3,400 m, so go slowly. On a one-day tour Pisac is usually the first or the last stop.
Yes, a footpath runs down through the terraces from the upper part of the site to the town. Independent visitors often take a taxi up and walk down, about an hour or more. On a group tour you return to the van instead, because the tour moves on.
Most full-day tours do, either first thing on the way out of Cusco or last on the way back. The tour at the top of this page visits it last, for about an hour; the classic route that skips Moray and Maras visits it first. The half-day Moray and Maras tours do not go to Pisac.
